Cricket- adopted 08/2008
When my boyfriend and I decided to get a second cat to complete our family, we knew it was going to be no easy task.  Our older cat, Platypus, is an “alpha male,” who is very sweet with people, but is a bully with other animals.  Since Marie knew him very well, she was able to helps us choose the best cat at the rescue for him and for us.  She was right!  Cricket and Platypus are the best of friends!  They play at day and snuggle at night.  Cricket is as sweet as can be!  She likes to watch movies with us or help me study for grad school exams.  She likes to play “fetch” with her toys, just like a dog does.  She keeps me laughing all day long!  I couldn’t have asked for a more friendly cat!

Platypus- adopted 03/2008
I am a person who liked big dogs.  But when I moved down to New Bern, our condo was too small for a big dog and our work schedules weren’t great for having a dog at all.  I started volunteering at CARS soon after moving down, even though there were a lot of cats (at the time, I wouldn’t have called myself a cat person), because I wanted to continue volunteering with animals.  Then, I found Platypus.  I’d been joking for a few years that I wanted to get a dog and name it Platypus, but here was a cat- with extra toes- already named Platypus.  I took this as a sign that this cat was meant to be mine.  We are his third adopted family- due to no fault of his- and we couldn’t be more perfectly matched!  (And, when asked, I now say I’m a domesticated animal person!)

Thanks Marie and CARS for saving this 3-week-old kitten from the Walmart parking lot, so that I could eventually adopt him when he was 2 years old!

Vivian- adopted 02/2010
We love Vivian. We adopted her a week ago from Croatan Animal Rescue. She is 5 years old. We wanted a cat but needed one that would adapt well with our 15 year old Shepherd. Vivian is GREAT!!! She was a little scared the first few days, but now she has the whole family and our dog completely in love with her. She is funny and full of energy and an absolutely wonderful addition to our family. I am so glad that we decided to get her even though she wasn't a "kitten" because as our 7 year old say's, "She rocks and is cool". Our 9 year old loves all animals and has decided that Vivian is just perfect for our family!

Ms. Mouth- adopted 07/2010
On July 10, 2010 my son and I were in Petsmart in Morehead City, NC shopping for our boy Max. And there she was!! I felt like a new mother seeing her baby for the first time, through an ultrasound. I immediately asked for the adoption papers. I knew she was to be a part of our family. When they told me that she did not get along well with other cats, I was almost heartbroken. However, something told me she was just misunderstood. We brought her home on July 17, 2010. After 3 days of tussling Max and Ms. Mouth (aka Venus) have become like brother and sister. She has a successful second chance.

Cody- adopted 04/2010
Cleric(Cody) He is as lovable as can be, he loves to cuddle and loves to play with his big brother Arthas!

Buttermilk- adopted 03/2010
We have decided to name her Coconut Lorelai.  Although, if something else strikes us soon, we may change it.

She is adjusting well, hasn't had any accidents, is eating, and sleeps on our bed.  One of our boxers stares at her constantly and really likes to lick her...but she has really saggy boxer lips and is quite sloppy.  Coconut gets a little bit scared, but just sits there and endures.  We are hoping she learns soon to jump onto the bed or the back of the couch to avoid the dog-baths, so she can have more solace.
